Sir James Dyson OM CBE FRS FREng is the Founder of Dyson. Working alongside his son Jake, and with Dyson’s 6,000 engineers and scientists, he leads the development of new technologies and products spanning autonomous vacuums, connected air purifiers, lighting, hand dryers, and personal care products. Dyson technology is available in 83 markets and the company is investing £2.5 billion in new technologies. In September 2019 The Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology welcomed its third cohort. This is the first educational institution of its kind, offers an alternative to a traditional university degree, and pays the students a salary. Together with the James Dyson Foundation, Sir James has donated £100m towards charitable and educational causes since 2003. Sir James was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2015, and in the 2016 New Year Honours was appointed to the Order of Merit. Sir James was awarded a CBE in 1996, and a Knight Bachelor in the 2007.
