A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Alan Irvine worked in Milan with the innovative BBPR Group in 1954-5. On returning to London, he started his own practice, specialising in designing interiors for museums, and cultural exhibitions worldwide. Significant clients have included Olivetti, Fiat, and numerous European museums. He collaborated with Carlo Scarpa on the Frescoes from Florence exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, London in 1969, and on the Giorgio Morandi exhibitions, also in London. Furniture specially commissioned for these exhibitions has since been produced by Simon Gavina, Italy. Exhibitions have included Horses of San Marco, Glass of Caesars, Lion of Venice, Leonardo Drawings in Milan; and Michelangelo Drawings at the Louvre, Paris.
